Adopt Instagram and look like a Pro

You have to live on another planet to not have heard of Instagram, an application that some describe as a social network and which allows anyone to publish their photos as if they were a real professional photographer. So we thought it would be interesting to suggest you to take your first steps on the app and to reveal your pictures to a larger audience.

Instagram is far from being a temporary madness. You need a proof? The application has more than 800 million active users worldwide, including me. And since you are never better served than by yourself, we can only encourage you to visit our Instagram page now. Let’s level set - the last straw for a photographer – accessing Instagram via an Internet browser allows you to view the photos of others, but it will be much easier to use an app on Android or IOS to publish your own pictures. Are you ready? Ghislain Bruyère invites you in the very colourful world of Instagram.

Instagram, a little square spirit

You will notice it when visiting my Instagram page, the square format is everywhere on this application dedicated to photography. This created the buzz for the application, people would make fun of this format which, for the eldest, makes a clear reference to the Polaroid. However Instagram developers have reviewed their concept for some time now and you can publish pictures in portrait or landscape format. Amongst other things you will very quickly discover how to modify your photos, directly in the app, so that it meets the required criteria.

Instagram, the king of filters

Let’s also remember that Instagram, originally was a photo application allowing amateurs to have fun with their ‘artworks’, no matter how ordinary they may be. And this is the reason why the developers of the application have decided to offer plenty of different filters that make even your most ordinary picture look attractive. To apply them, nothing could be simpler: you select your photo and then you find, at the bottom of the screen, thumbnails of your photo on which filters have been applied. Then just choose which one you prefer and save it.

You can also switch to manual mode. Indeed, once you have selected a photo, you can go in the “Edit” menu. There you will find a vast range of settings that will allow you to apply filters that are nothing like conventional filters that everyone usually uses. Of course, the Instagram page of Focalice does not have any pictures on which filters have been applied. And Ghislain Bruyère has a last tip for you on this topic: use filters with subtlety. Your pictures will only be more pleasant to look at.

Instagram brings out the photographer in you

By downloading the app on your smartphone, you can use it directly to take pictures. The advantage? They will be directly captured in this so characteristic square format. Furthermore, Instagram offers interesting features allowing to improve the quality of your photos very quickly. In addition to the filters already discussed, Instagram also offers add-ins such as ‘Layout for Instagram’ that will allow you to present your photos in an original way. Other apps will also allow you to produce videos that will not make you win an Oscar, but will have the gift for entertaining those who follow you on Instagram. We can think of Boomerang or Hyperlapse, for example.

Instagram allows you to be seen

No hypocrisy, to be on Instagram is only to be seen and, more precisely, to be seen by the widest audience. Let’s not hide it, when Focalice provides an Instagram page, it is indeed to allow you to judge the talent of Ghislain Bruyère. At the same time, who better than us can understand the pleasure you will feel when visitors to your Instagram page will congratulate you on your various achievements. To increase your notoriety, just follow these two tips. The first one is that it is preferable to stick to a style or a theme. You can create multiple Instagram accounts if you want, but always try to keep what we call a common thread. You are passionate about gastronomy? Do not hesitate to publish the pictures of your culinary discoveries of the moment, but do not drag the photo of the youngest learning to play with plasticine. You would end up disappointing your followers. The second tip is to use hashtags. Indeed, if each Instagram photo can be combined with a description which we recommend original, it can also be qualified by hashtags. These will allow you to reach people you don’t know at all and thus increase you notoriety.
